OurRadioFS is a companion utility for X-Plane that turns your aircraft's COM radio into a working VHF radio.
It's a lightweight Windows app that runs alongside the sim. It reads your COM1 frequency and your position from X-Plane over its native UDP data interface, and lets you talk to other pilots flying nearby — with realistic VHF range and radio static, driven entirely by what your aircraft is doing in the simulator.
No plugin to install — nothing goes in your plugins folder. It just reads the sim over UDP and gives your cockpit radio something to do. No accounts, nothing to sign up for.
It's driven by your aircraft — read live from X-Plane
I didn't want a chat app with a frequency label on it. I wanted the radio in the cockpit to behave like a real one. Everything below is read live from the sim:
It uses your real COM1 — not an app frequency. Spin the tuning knob in the cockpit and you change who you're talking to. The radio in the plane is the interface.
Range works like real VHF — line of sight. Uses your altitude and position to model VHF range. Up high you reach hundreds of km; on the ground, a few. Climb and it opens up; drop behind the horizon and it closes.
Signal fades into static with distance. No hard cutoff — a distant aircraft melts into the noise and rises back out as it approaches. You can hear a plane getting closer.
The radio runs on the aircraft's electrics. Cold and dark = silence. Battery and avionics on = it wakes up.
Volume follows the cockpit knob. Turn COM1 volume down in the sim and incoming calls get quieter.
It sounds like a radio. A warm, band-passed analog filter with a live static floor.
Push-to-talk on anything. Any keyboard key or any button on your yoke, joystick or HOTAS.
See who's on frequency. A live list of aircraft on your frequency and in range — callsign, aircraft type, distance and altitude.
See who's flying, anywhere — the live map (optional, off by default). Turn it on in Settings to share your position and see who's flying and on which frequency; find someone to fly with, then tune in. Off = your position is only used for range.
One shared sky with MSFS. OurRadioFS also runs on MSFS, and MSFS and X-Plane pilots share the same frequencies — the airwaves are busier from day one.
How it works — Start X-Plane and OurRadioFS (connects over UDP, no plugin) → tune COM1 (battery + avionics on) → hold PTT and speak → anyone on that frequency in range hears you, fading with distance and altitude.
Requirements — X-Plane 11 or 12 running on Windows 10/11 (the app is Windows-only; X-Plane on Mac/Linux isn't supported yet) · a microphone.
Installation — Run OurRadioFS-Setup.exe (no admin, nothing goes into X-Plane). SmartScreen may warn (unsigned free app) → More info → Run anyway. Pick a callsign, set your mic/speakers and PTT, fly.
Note: the download also includes an optional in-cockpit panel — that's for MSFS only and isn't used by X-Plane; ignore it.
Important — Entertainment add-on, not real ATC. Voice is live and unmoderated; be respectful. Open channel — don't share personal info.
Privacy — No accounts, no email, no tracking. Voice is relayed live and never recorded. While you fly, your callsign, aircraft, frequency and position appear on the public live map so other pilots can find someone to talk to — the app asks you when it starts and you can turn it off there, or in Settings at any time. With it off, your position is only used to calculate radio range.
