EVA Air choose 787 to modernize its regional and long-haul capabilities with the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
It replaced older widebodies. Such as several A330-300s and the entire fleet of A330-200.
While initial units featured a two-class layout, originally planned to only operate this type in Asia as with regional configure and A330-2/300 replacement, but eventually find out it works very well for long-haul too
newer deliveries and retrofitted frames now include a three-class configuration with a dedicated Premium Economy cabin to enhance North American and European routes.
The asian reginal shuttle/medium demand route that previously operated by the A330-200 now has been handed over to the larger 787-10, with low Cost Per-Seats and cheaper operating costs.
The aircraft, B-17886 (MSN 63522 / LN 1210). Delivered in April 2025, powered by two GEnx-1B engines
Featuring EVA's third generation premium economy cabin fresh from the factory, she's the first aircraft to receive this new configuration.
(EVA later retrofit the entire fleet with same configuration, internal code "78P")
She's also the second 787-9 that EVA receive after pedemic
